We were more than happy to take a day off today and head to Mount Royal for our first Not-Back-to-School Picnic with greater Montreal’s large community of homeschoolers. The day was perfect: warm, sunny, beautiful blue skies, a playground, a splash pad, a lake, ducks and a forested area. It was made even more perfect by friends, food and good conversation.
I enjoyed it, I really did. But as I drove home, I couldn’t help thinking about the stark contrast between the way I was spending the day and the way Abdullah Kurdi was spending his.
This is how my kids and I spent the day:
We are so lucky to live where we do, to have these sorts of opportunities available to us, to see our children smile every single day. So, so lucky. Keep your eyes open, mommies and daddies, and savour all these moments. And that’s all I have to say today.
