We did a few different things this morning. Zahra did a cross-numbers puzzle and sketched a black-capped chickadee to add to her belted kingfisher drawing. Noah did some reading practice while Leila traced the sandpaper ‘e’ and glued a felt ‘e’ into her main lesson book. Then we sat on the couch and read a stack of Babar books. But we were really waiting for late afternoon so we could leave for the Botanical Gardens.

We packed a picnic dinner and joined friends to see The Great Pumpkin Ball and, after nightfall, the Gardens of Light. I took my mother-in-law and sister-in-law here a few years ago, but this was the first time the kids had been; and it was magical.

Inside the garden greenhouses are pumpkins decorated by schools and other groups from all over the area. Here are some of our favourites.
