iceThe weather forecasts were all disastrous, so when there was only snow this morning, we got dressed and went outside to work some more on the ice castle. It was just the four of us…wait, three of us…wait two of us. How do I figure that? Leila, in her snowsuit, is a purple blob that—if we’re lucky—wanders aimlessly around the backyard; that means we’re three working on the castle building. When we’re not lucky, as was the case after twenty minutes of activity this morning, she goes out of her way to create more trouble, subtracting myself from the building equation as I chase her around.

ice 2But Zahra and Noah, they rocked it. They unburied ice blocks in the snow, made slushy mortar, and slapped those bricks up, one after another. They completed a whole level before it started raining and we went inside for snack. Some SQUILT, some math—today was looking a whole lot like yesterday—lunch, and then Zahra and I went back out to complete most of another level. Then it was off to her an orthodontics consultation. Sigh.

Tomorrow is skiing, so the ice castle is on hold. To be continued…
